Little Amal is a 12 foot tall, ten year old Syrian refugee puppet created by Handspring Puppet Theatre in 2021 to highlight that over half of the world's refugees are children.  As the centerpiece of The Walk, Little Amal has visited 13 countries, attending 240 events in 85 cities, and has been greeted by approximately one million artists, activists, civil society and faith leaders, as well as children and community members.  On social media, Little Amal has become a beacon of hope for human rights, especially those of refugees, and has reached millions of people world-wide.

On Wednesday Sept 14, 2022, Little Amal arrived in New York City and took her first walk on an American street in Jamaica, Queens, chosen as her first stop in America because it is the most ethnically diverse county in the county. On Jamaica Avenue, she was greeted by local student drummers and dancers before making her way to Jamaica Performing Arts Center. There she met Butterfly and See-More from The Shadow Box Theatre, before making her way to the Rufus King Manor, where she was greeted by a large scale Rufus King puppet welcoming her to the city, created by Tom Riddelberger, a Master Puppet Maker for Shadow Box Theatre.
